Dairy shed heat recovery funding
Would you like to reduce on-farm costs by cutting your dairy shed electricity bill? Funding from EECA can help pay for the purchase and installation of a heat recovery system that could reduce electricity costs in your dairy shed by up to 30 per cent.
Our research shows some dairy sheds are using three times more electricity than the most efficient sheds in New Zealand. Heat recovery is generally the most cost-effective way of making electricity savings.
What's on offer?
EECA Business will fund up to a third of the cost of buying and installing a heat recovery system.
- In existing sheds, EECA will cover up to 33% of the cost of buying and retrofitting a system
- In new dairy sheds, EECA will cover 25% of the cost of buying and installing heat recovery technology
Upgrading to more energy efficient equipment (such as drive control systems and lighting) may also qualify for EECA funding.
What's the benefit?
Recovering the heat produced during the milk chilling process provides an additional source of energy which can be used by your dairy shed hot water heating system, reducing the amount of electricity needed. Lower dairy shed operating costs reduce your exposure to fluctuating milk-solid prices.
Payback on investing in heat recovery technology typically takes two to five years although it can be less than a year for large farms.

- Apply to EECA for funding
