Technology grants
We understand that new technology can bring big improvements in energy efficiency, but sometimes it can be costly. We can help businesses invest in energy-efficient technologies that are new or underutilised in New Zealand.
This funding is for projects that can help reduce fossil fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions as well as increasing productivity.
Examples
Examples of technologies recently funded include:
- Fans and boiler controls
- Biodigesters
- Dehumidifier dryers
- Heat recovery
- Renewable energy projects
- Industrial refrigeration
- Fishing technologies
- Soil moisture sensing.
Other technologies - such as cogeneration facilities - will also be considered, provided they:
- Are new or underutilised in New Zealand
- Have the potential to be applied to a majority of businesses within any industry or sector.
Funding
The technology grants your business can apply for are:
- Grants - up to 40% of the total project cost, up to a maximum of $100,000
- Scoping study grants - up to a maximum 75% of the study costs (up to $10,000).
How to apply
There are several competitive technology grant funding rounds each year. Each funding round will be notified on this website and on the Government Electronic Tenders Service (GETS).
The next funding round closes on Friday 26 March 2010.

Find out more about how businesses have used technology to reduce their energy bills and become more competitive:
