Case studies

The following companies have received grants under the Energy Intensive Businesses (EIB) project:

  • Comparative Review of All-Electric Moulding Machines (Auckland)

Three companies - Monaghan Plastics, Tru Design Plastics and Tru-Test Limited – installed all-electric moulding machines with the assistance of an EECA grant.

  • Clive Scouring Limited (Napier)

A heat exchange system was installed to recover waste boiler heat to supply other plant processes on site.

  • A Verkerk Ltd (Christchurch)

This grant has been used for converting a diesel boiler to operate on tallow as the fuel for this meat processor.

  • Tegel Foods Ltd (New Plymouth)

A combined heat recovery system that recovers waste heat from the ammonia refrigeration system and a compressed air system has been installed.

A new electric plastic moulding machine has replaced an old 80 tonne hydraulically driven machine.

This grant has been used to install an energy efficient vacuum drying machine for plastics.

  • Canterbury Laundry Services (Christchurch)

Two new high efficiency gas fired industrial clothes dryers with air to air heat recovery units have replaced two old steam heated dryers.

  • Awarua Dairy Farm ((Waikato)

The dairy shed in Morrinsville installed a technology to recover the heat in the hot water.

  • Viscount Plastics (Auckland)

This is an optimisation of water chillers and cooling towers systems to balance energy input, heat extraction and flow control to match production demands.
