Seafood
The New Zealand Seafood Industry Council and the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) have formed a partnership to develop energy efficiency measures for the seafood sector.
Energy can represent up to 60% of at-sea operating costs. This partnership is developing a best practice programme aimed at reducing energy use across the industry by 10% within five years - from high-seas fishing to land-based processing.
The programme is targeting three areas:
- monitoring and controlling energy use
- improving the energy efficiency of fishing gear
- sharing information and raising awareness.
