During the design phase of Waitakere Hospital a design audit was undertaken to ensure that the new facilities were low-energy environments. Adjustments were made to the design so that the buildings made the most of natural ventilation, insulation and natural lighting levels were increased as well as the use of other energy efficient technologies.
NZ Standard NZS 4246:2006 - Energy Efficiency - Installing Insulation in Residential Buildings
This Standard is intended to provide clear and sound guidance to installers of insulation to ensure that the design thermal performance and thermal durability of the building element is achieved.
Selwyn District Council's new headquarters in Rolleston is a showcase of energy efficient design. A design audit before construction managed to find even more efficiencies - and in the process more than halving the estimated energy spend.
This case study looks at how this council ensured that their new headquarters was designed to be future-proof as well as energy efficient as possible.
