Energy for Industry purchased the Dunedin Energy Centre from the Otago District Health Board (ODHB) in 2002 under a BOOT partnership (Build, Own, Operate, Transfer). The energy centre comprises four coal-fired steam boilers with a total capacity of 30 MWth and a steam reticulation system.

The conversion of the Paraparaumu Sewerage Sludge Drying Plant from diesel to wood will offer Kapiti Coast District Council the opportunity to slash its fuel costs at the site from the current level of around $575,000 in 2008, to as low as$115,000 in the first year of operation.
