Producing wood for energy
The production and preparation of wood to use as energy involves a supply chain which includes:
- Managing forests
- Processing
- Drying
- Handling
- Storing fuel
The way these areas are managed depends on what type of wood energy is being produced and what it will be used for. They can also make quite a difference to the quality and quantity of the end product and the eventual cost of the fuel. There are a number ways companies can manage the energy required to produce wood to maximise revenue they make from the sale of wood fuel.
The production and sale of wood residue is a growing area and companies who produce wood residue as a by-product (e.g. log felling and timber processing companies) may want to look at how they can make revenue from wood residue.
