Clean Energy Centre forest residue utilisation trial
On behalf of the Greater Wellington Regional Council (GWRC) the New Zealand Clean Energy Centre (NZCEC) has investigated the harvesting residues available in GWRC forests for use as a commercial energy product. NZCEC has carried out studies to investigate volumes of residue available, a viable extraction method, and added value drying techniques across three seasons for the residues. The Energy Efficiency Conservation Authority (EECA) have invested in the trial to help New Zealand gain a better understanding of how attention to handling of forest residues improves the usefulness and energy content (via water loss) in a way that is practically useful to NZ companies wishing to source forest biomass as a fuel. NZCEC has identified Wellington based customers for this resource.
