Energy audits
If you want your business to make better use of energy or reduce your carbon footprint, our energy audit is an invaluable tool. An energy audit evaluates how energy is being used, and identifies the energy and cost-saving opportunities. We'll even help fund your audit.
What’s on offer
We fund audits of the following technology systems:
- compressed air
- pumping and fan
- process heat (boilers, furnaces, steam and hot water systems)
- refrigeration
Eligible sites can get EECA funding towards a base-level audit or an investment-level audit. You select the scope of audit suited to your needs.

Type 1 |
Basic Energy Audit

Type 1 audits provide a quantitative overview of energy performance and identify low cost opportunities with payback of up to 2 years. Type 1 audits are suitable for smaller energy users of as a scoping energy audit of a large energy using site or process. |
If you spend more than $200,000 per year on energy, you may be eligible for financial support. Funding is available for up to 40% of thecost of an energy audit to a maximum of $20,000. |

Detailed Energy Audit |

| Type 2 audits provide detailed analysis of energy performance to quantify the full range of opportunities for a site. Type 2 audits involve a comprehensive review and analysis of equipment systems, and operational characteristics of the whole facility to enable quantified implementable energy savings recommendations. | ||
Type 3 |
Precision Subsystem Audit

Type 3 audits are detailed audits of specific subsystems, with additional data gathering and measurement to provide a higher level of accuracy than is possible with Type 2. Type 3 audits are normally undertaken to support business cases for capital intensive upgrades that require more certainty around savings outcomes. Type 3 audits include the audits of the following systems:

Who should apply
Your organisation may be eligible for industrial energy audit support if it has:
- 150 kW or more of capacity in electric motorised systems
- 1.5 MW or more of capacity in heat plant (boiler or oven) systems.

EECA Programme Partners conduct all audits according to EECA-approved energy audit standards. Contact an EECA Programme Partner approved for the technology area you’re interested in - they’ll advise you on the best type of energy audit and help you apply.
